The deadline for voting for our charitable grants is this Tuesday. Please complete the attached ballot and give it to Roger Moody, either at Tuesday’s meeting or by emailing him at rotary.secretary.camden@gmail.com

Special thanks to Tom Pine and the Penbay Yachting Rotarians for organizing Thursday night’s event. Almost 70 people enjoyed Terry Moore’s talk about his expedition to retrace the route that Leif Erikson took to discover North America around 1000 AD – and enjoyed the wonderful spread provided by Graffam Bros.

By now, everyone should have received their personal invitation to sponsor Music by the Sea, one of our Club’s most significant fundraisers and a Camden July Fourth tradition. Please make your check payable to the Camden Rotary Foundation and mail it to the Camden Rotary Club, PO Box 602, Camden, ME 04843.  You could also hand it to a member of our fundraising team (Graham Phaup or Bob Fillnow).  We would appreciate it if you would make a note on your check or pledge that it is for 2019 Music by the Sea. Thank you for your investment in this event.

District 7790 will host our annual conference May 3-5, 2019, in Scott, Quebec. Our Club will help subsidize any member who is interested in attending this gathering, which will feature a discussion about the future of Rotary. The tentative agenda is attached; please click here for more details on the conference and let Leni know of your plans by emailing him at lenisulo@gmail.com. Early bird registration closes on March 31; after that date, registration will increase to $325 CAN.

The next Brew Fellowship event will take place on Saturday, April 6. The gathering will start at noon at Orono Brewing (61 Margin Street, Orono), then proceed to Marsh Island Brewing (2 Main Street, Orono) at 2:30 p.m. RSVP to Al Feather at featherdg1516@gmail.com or Scott Boucher at sboucher@barresibenefits.com. Please consider carpooling and drive responsibly.

Your Rotary stories can help our Club earn a silver or gold District Award. We must have 70 Facebook posts of our members tagged with the #iamrotary hashtag in order to qualify: right now, we are at 61 (only 9 more to go). Will you share your story to help us reach you goal? Filming takes less than five minutes and can be done right after one of our weekly meetings. Please contact Diane at dlebson@evergreenphilanthropy.com to schedule your videotaping today.

The next gathering of the Rotary Book Club will take place on Tuesday, April 9, at 4:30 p.m. in the Jean Picker Room of the Camden Public Library. The March book selection is The Storyteller’s Secret by Sejal Badani.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine will be hosting their 2019 Bowl for Kids’ Sake in April. Our Club is fielding a team to bowl on April 27 at Oakland Park Bowling Lanes. We will circulate a sponsor sheet at the upcoming meeting.

The next meeting of the Rotary Satellite Club will take place on Thursday, March 28, at 5:15 p.m. The Club meets at 40 Paper, 40 Washington Street, Camden. Satellite Club members are eager to meet fellow Rotarians, so please feel free to visit.

During our meeting last week, Audrey Klein-Leach mentioned an estate planning workshop that Camden National Bank will be hosting on March 27. Please see the attached flier for details.

Do you have news about your community engagement that you would like to share with the rest of the club? Please e-mail dlebson@evergreenphilanthropy.com.

We had an exceptional meeting last week in which we inducted three new members to our ranks (Jordan Lytton, Robert Wasserstrom, and James Wickenden). We will have another induction ceremony at our meeting on Tuesday and there are more prospects considering membership. Check out this blog on the Rotary International website for tips on how we can all do to grow Rotary.
